Fittings are usually sold separately from fixtures.
Select fittings that are easy to operate and durable. Fittings are priced according to materials, quality, and design.
Fittings for sinks are available with single, center set or spread-sit controls. A single control fitting has a combined faucet and lever knob that controls water and flow temperature.
A center-set control has separated hot and cold controls and a faucet, all mounted on a base. A spread fit control has separate hot and cold water controls and a faucet, each mounted individually. Pop-up or plug stoppers are sold separately or with faucet and water controls.
Decide which kind of control you want then make sure it fits the sink. The number of holes in the sink and the distance between them determine which fitting to use.
For tubs and showers, you can use either single or separate controls. Tubs also require a spout and drain. Tub/Showers need a spout, head, diverter valve, and drain. Water- saver shower heads are readily available these days. You can purchase single control fittings with pressure balancing and thermostatic valves.
The best fittings are made of brass and come in several finishes including chrome, pewter and gold.
